Marketing Ideas for a newly licensed Insurance Agent?

Posted by admin in 4 on 09 29th, 2009

I need help!! I’m a newly licensed Insurance Agent, and need some marketing ideas to produce!! - Please help!

When I first started my business, I dropped off flyers in Church parking lots during services, at parking lots for grocery stores, home improvement stores, etc. I also did volunteer work with a lot of the advocacy programs here and since people met me and saw me as someone willing to sincerely help people I got a good reputation and they would send me clients. I dropped off flyers and business cards and spoke with the owners of all the local businesses. I also dropped off specialized flyers that are made so that they can hang off a doorknob in neighborhoods that I wanted to do business, etc.

Also join whatever networking groups you can. I am in the Mid-Atlantic Region and here we have a group called BNI (Business Networking International) only one person from each industry can be represented in the group (i.e. one home improvement contractor, one commercial real estate agent, one residential real estate agent, one mortgage broker, one banker, one accountant, one property casualty insurance agent, one life agent, one group benefits agent, one commercial furniture sales person, one printer, one computer person, etc.). The group meets on a weekly basis to get to know each other, know each others businesses and give each other referrals. Look up BNI on the Internet, but if you don’t have this type of group, I suggest you start one. This is a wonderful way to get real referrals not just leads and also make excellent business and social contacts. Also check into other business groups for networking such as your local chambers of commerce, etc. Do not waste too much money on advertising since it does not work as well as actual networking and the other methods I have mentioned.

The most important thing to remember is to treat each of your clients as if he or she is that million dollar account. If you do a good job with a client, he/she will remember and send you 2 or 3 others. If you do a bad job with a client, he/she will not only fire you but they will speak badly about you to 10 people! Reputation is everything in our business. Also institute a referral program–a good one is to offer a $10 gas card for each qualified referral that a client sends your way! I know that this program works because it gets the phone ringing and will result in many sales. Another way to get referrals is to create a postcard that has your name and address pre-printed on one side and on the other side in big bold letters across the top read: "THIS CARD IS WORTH DINNER FOR TWO." Follow that with a list of local restaurants the prospect can choose from & note that to obtain the free dinner certificate the postcard must be filled out in full and no lines can be left blank. You then follow that with 10 sets of boxes that each includes space to write the contact’s full name, title, company name, brief description of business (if you are soliciting commercial business), mailing address, and a contact number/s.

Also try attending the Dynamics of Sales Course offered by the Professional Insurance Agents Association and read as many books as you can on sales and marketing techniques. Also try seminar selling–I have taught classes on homeowners insurance & safety to first time homebuyers sponsored by non-profits and classes on commercial insurance at a couple of local universities, business development centers and community centers that have offered workshops to people who are attempting to start their own businesses. While it takes some time you end up getting anywhere from one to five new clients per class and become an "expert". Also once you start gaining experience and knowledge consider writing articles for community papers–they will give you a byline and usually at the bottom will list a very short bio and your contact information–again this will position you as an "expert" which will eventually yield very good referrals & visibility.

After a while most of your clients will come from referrals but never stop doing your best and thanking your clients for each one of the referrals they give you. Remember that if you give great service there is never truly any competition.

What are the benefits of open source software model to original software writers?

Posted by admin in 6 on 09 23rd, 2009

I am interested in what the benefits of open software model are to original software writers (not users). I more or less understand the concept from users standpoint (they can modify it, just like Linux, etc.) What I would like to know is what would a developer gain by releasing his software into community. He cannot charge for it anymore, even if he still holds IP rights like patents. Charging for support, not licenses? Quick market penetration? What else? Thanks.

Customers. He charges for maintenance, usually. Also Open Source programs are often tickets to big money jobs at companies like Google or, in the case of the Mach kernel writer (Mach kernel being the one that runs Mac OS X GNU Hurd and GNU Darwin) a job at Microsoft. Miguel de Icaza was actually hired by Microsoft, but US Immigration said "You can’t have him because he never went to college" so he co-wrote the GNOME desktop and now he works for Novell.

Open Source Software is a calling card. Red Hat is doing very well as an Open Source company so don’t knock it.

Software dedicated to burning that saves a DVD image to hard drive for later burning on physical disk?

Posted by admin in 6 on 09 21st, 2009

I am looking for DVD burning software that will save a disc image to my hard drive. I prefer to use this software later to pick up the disk image for burning onto a physical DVD disk. I know Nero does this, but Nero comes with a large basket full of other things I’ll never use. Is there any software dedicated to burning only, and that saves a DVD image to hard drive for later burning on physical disk?

Try ImgBurn & InfraRecorder These two are free and light Weight.

What are some good marketing ideas for starting a residential cleaning service? ?What would you like to ask?

Posted by admin in 4 on 09 21st, 2009

I’m starting a residential cleaning service. I went and got some business cards and I plan going door to door passing them out. Any other suggestions?

10 points for best suggestion.

I would make flyers rather than leaving business cards on the door.

You can get more information on a flyer. I would also obtain insurance and get become bonded (both from any insurance agent). That makes you look more legit and people will hire you more often.

You might want to include some sample pricing. Such as Clean bathrooms, vacuum, dust and mop floors staring at $39.00 (or whatever price you come up with).

How does someone become a real estate agent?

Posted by admin in 3 on 09 21st, 2009

I have been in sales for 5 years and am curious how to switch to becoming a real estate agent? How long does it take before you start to earn money? All commission based? Weekends involved? What is the best agency to work for?
Southeastern Michigan. What’s the earning potential?

Well it depends on the state for which you live. I know in Missouri you must take a 60 hour course. Then you can take your state realtor’s license.

What video editing software should I buy?

Posted by admin in 6 on 09 19th, 2009

I want to do masking/croma keying that Sony Vegas pro does. You know, where you can cut around a video to show another video in the background around it. But, I don’t want to spend 300-600 bucks on the software. Preferably 100 dollars. I looked into software but the descriptions don’t give me details about overlays and masking. Is there a really good software that can make awesome music videos without spending a fortune.
